André KALFAYAN
Andre Kalfayan is born in 1968 in Byblos city, in Lebanon, from parents of Armenian descent. This ancient city became an inspiration for Andre Kalfayan throughout most of his art work. He also derived his exquisite creativity and originality from his Armenian roots. His talent & passion gave him enough acclaim to become one of the best professional painters in Lebanon & the region as he worked hard by learning all about art painting on his own.
He has been distinguished through his particular drawings of antique doors, old windows and balconies. His paintings embodied the Lebanese heritage that was associated with his name throughout the world. Kalfayan’s paintings revived the nostalgia and reminiscence of every Lebanese immigrant, enabling him to reach Lebanese expats all over the world, along with politicians, ambassadors and tourists from many countries. You will find his drawings all over the globe in Lebanese Embassies, Museums and Lebanese Restaurants.
He established a new line of his own by painting on canvas using blades and pins. Andre Kalfayan caught the media’s attention to become so famous in a short time period. Andre Kalfayan has a remarkable presence in every exhibition; he also participated in regional and international exhibitions and had a long series of individual exposés that attracted the art pioneers of all ages, as his paintings are of a natural and simple composition, a true delight to the eyes.
Despite the constant renewal of his style, his painting are always distinguished and integrated with the preceded ones. Kalfayan’s painting techniques and steady line shaped his creations with a notable identity. You recognize a “kalfayan painting” even before you check the signature.
Byblos -Kalfayan’s hometown- supported and honored him. He received a trophy for his work from “Byblorama” and “Al Alamiyya” magazines. He was also honored by the city of Beirut, furthermore he was asked to be a member of the association of development of Gemayzeh area.2018 brought him an immense recognition; Kalfayan was awarded the “BIAF” for Best Lebanese Painter.
Several schools and universities honored him as well; one of those was “Hagazian University” that organized a special exhibition for Kalfayan on the occasion of its fiftieth anniversary.
He most recently had a special hall in his name at the Sacred Heart School in BAUCHRIEH marking the 100th centenary of the Armenian massacres.
